Livestock buildings and barn for Rugmer Hill, Yalding,
Kent
Rugmer Hill Farm at Yalding, Kent, has a complex of
Shufflebottom steel-framed buildings because farmer Mr M Gibb
regards them as the "Rolls Royce of farm buildings".
The farm is home to the Rugmer Hill herd of pedigree Sussex
cattle, and to some rare breeds. Cattle on the farm are comfortable
in a new Shufflebottom livestock building, 42m by 18m and 4.5m to
the eaves, with a 1.3m overhang along both side elevations. The
building includes the Shufflebottom galvanised eaves beam gutter
system, which forms part of the main structure. The roof cladding
is laurel green P6R fibre cement with vented ridges, and the closed
sides are clad with Yorkshire boarding. The steelwork is shotblast
to B.S. SA 2.5 and has a hot-dipped galvanised finish.
A second livestock building is almost identical, except that the
overhang is 1.2m instead of 1.3m. There is also a
steel-framed hay barn, 36m by 14m and 5.8m high to the eaves. This
too incorporates the Shufflebottom eaves beam gutter system, and it
has a laurel green P6R fibre cement roof with alternated vented
ridges. The steelwork has a hot-dipped galvanised finish.
