Berries Benefit from Shufflebottom Cold
Store
Shufflebottom has supplied a large cold store facility of over
1,700 square metres to Hall Hunter Partnership (HHP),
soft fruit farmers with sites in Berkshire, Surrey and Sussex.
The new facility is located at Tuesley Farm, Milford, near
Godalming in Surrey, as a refrigerated and controlled atmosphere
store to keep harvested crops in top condition. "We are
delighted with the finished facility which will ensure that all of
our crops at Tuesley are maintained in perfect condition for our
customers. The complex design, which incorporates leading
sustainable and renewable energy features, sits perfectly within
the farm scene", commented David Kay, General Manager of HHP.
This is Shufflebottom's third project for HHP, which is a fruit
and vegetable farming business dating from 1966. In 2010 HHP are
growing strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries,
supplied to supermarkets through Berryworld, a leading fruit
marketing company based in Hertfordshire.
HHP are cropping over 800 acres this year. Free trade and
long-distance refrigerated transport has opened the UK market to
growers from across the globe, but rising freight costs now give
efficient producers of high-quality fruit in Britain, like HHP, new
opportunities to supply their home market.
The Shufflebottom steel-framed buildings at Tuesley Farm are 54m
by 18m, and 46m by 15.6m, with bays of 6m and 5.75m respectively,
and roof pitch of 12.5 degrees.
