New Earth Solutions'
waste-to-energy plant at Avonmouth, near Bristol in south-west
England, constructed by Dean & Dyball, has 700 tonnes of
structural steel from Shufflebottom at its core. This exciting
plant will use gasification and pyrolysis technology to convert
waste into electricity, using fuel from New Earth Solutions'
adjacent plant for processing household waste. Generation of
electricity, expected to be 7.5MW, should begin in 2012.
The waste-to-energy plant is being constructed on the site of a
former Britannia Zinc factory, and as well as giving a new lease of
life to a brownfield site will cut the amount of waste going to
landfill. New Earth Solutions has a contract with the West of
England Partnership of local authorities to process over 120,000
tonnes of non-recyclable household waste annually into the source
fuel for electricity generation.
