Future Generations Community Super School

On May 1st 2019, the state-of-the-art £44 million community super school at Tonyrefail opened its doors. It’s a flagship project for Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) Borough Council and an exemplar of the ‘all through’ learning environments being delivered by Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools’ Programme.

The two new buildings and refurbished existing Grade 11. Victorian building, provide a co-location for 360 primary and nursery pupils and 1,190 secondary and sixth form pupils.

A project of this scope and scale demanded sector expertise in construction and infrastructure. RCT therefore awarded the contact to Morgan Sindall, a UK company with proven excellence of design and build in education, who are delivering a number of ground-breaking education projects across south Wales.

At Shufflebottom, we were therefore delighted to be contracted by Morgan Sindall to supply the steel work for this prestigious project. Known for our strength in supplying steel work and steel-framed buildings to industrial, commercial and agricultural customers, we were a natural fit to supply the inner strength that this development relied on.

Numbers count. And we’re proud to say that we supplied 55 tonnes of hot rolled steel and 12 tonnes of cold rolled steel for the primary and nursery school, and a huge 629 tonnes of hot rolled steel for the secondary school and sixth form. Proud too, of the seamless collaboration with Morgan Sindall in helping to transform community education in Tonyrefail now, and for future generations.

“We were very pleased to be involved with Morgan Sindall on this job. There was a great site team on the project.”

And The Winner Is!!!!!!!

Even though we have Ellie the Elephant as our Shufflebottom logo, we’re not usually very comfortable with blowing our own trumpet. But we can’t say we’re not pleased about our latest good news.
Last Friday, 11th October, Alex Shufflebottom, one of our three directors here at Shufflebottom, won an award at the Women in Business Awards 2019. Now in its 10th year, this prestigious event celebrates the best business women in the Swansea Bay City Region. Hosted by one of UK’s premier broadcasters, Frances Donovan, and with US business woman and TV personality, Caprice Bourret as the motivational guest speaker, Alex was recognised as the winner in the Growth and Expansion category.

She's BACK!!!!!!!!

Earlier this month, drivers passing along the road outside our premises in Cross Hands Business Park, will have been intrigued at the sight of a giant, steel elephant being hoisted into position outside our factory. For some, this was a first glimpse of Ellie, our much-loved logo. For others – including many of us at Shufflebottom – it signalled the long-awaited return of this iconic landmark.
