Shufflebottom delivers an agricultural building for an exciting Essex Farm

At Shufflebottom we love to play our part in exciting agricultural adventures and see people’s vision become reality on the ground. Such is the case with Broomhills Farm at Pebmarsh Halstead in Essex, where we have recently supplied an agricultural steel-framed building.

The building which will help develop Broomhills Farm was supplied to agricultural specification and CE Marked to Executive Class 2. It is a non-load-bearing structure 120ft. long x 50ft. wide x 20ft. to eaves with an additional 12ft. long x 15ft. wide overhang which includes 6 x 20ft. bays. The steelwork is shot blast to B.S. SA 2.5. and painted in 75 microns Zinc Phosphate High Build Primer – Colour 14C39 (Green). The roof is clad in Natural Grey P6R Fibre cement with Closed Ridges. The sides are clad in Vertical 0.5mm Juniper Green Plastic Coated Box Profile with MetSEC side rails.

Our customers were the Sharps – farm partners, husband and wife, Michael and Verity Sharp, who have been developing ‘Broomhills Farm’ for over fourteen years. Back in 2010, Michael was a Farrier and Verity a PR Executive in the City. All that changed when Verity gave up her job and she and Michael married and secured 7-acres of land, a stable and a tin shed, ten store cattle and started a beef cattle farm from scratch.

Over the years they have seen their dream materialise and have won awards and been described by the Essex Agricultural Society as “dynamic young rural entrepreneurs” for their dedication to rearing beef cattle. During this time, as well as rearing beef and lamb they have also been rearing children! Verity (from a farming family herself) says that she is “born and bred” into farming and that it is far more “rewarding and real” than her previous role in PR.

Broomhills Farm have made it their business to add value to the animals they rear by selling their meat direct to the public from their farm shop or via local stores. Beef and lamb is butchered to suit, and customers can buy meat boxes too, with the product illustrating 100% traceability from field to fork.

Shufflebottom is proud that our steel-framed building underpins the expansion in this exciting enterprise and we wish the Sharp family continued success in their business. This is now the couple’s 4th Shufflebottom building. We’re delighted that it adds to our growing profile on the ground in Essex.
