Shufflebottom helps Bristol Waste Company help Bristol to waste nothing

Progress is well underway at the Bristol Avonmouth Waste Processing Plant: the structural steel and cladding Shufflebottom has delivered for the new 2,160 sq. metre Waste Processing Plant Building is already constructed and looking fantastic. Once completed, the building will be prepared ready to function as a fully automated Materials Recycling Facility.

We were delighted to be appointed by our client, Bristol Waste Company (BWC) who also appointed Encon and SLR Consulting as their partners to deliver this project of scale and scope that will help BWC push forward the city of Bristol’s sustainability goals.

BWC states its mission as “helping Bristol waste nothing” which it does through local recycling, waste collection and street cleaning, and operating recycling centres in the city. It also offers commercial waste services for customers and workplace services encouraging its users to recycle more, throw away less and waste nothing.

Employing 800+ people, carrying out 17 million collections per year in a fleet of 180 vehicles that collect 60,000 tonnes of waste and recycling materials and clean 800 miles of streets and paths, they are seriously committed to sustainability. The multi-million pound investment in this new facility at Avonmouth is testament to that commitment.

Shufflebottom is delighted to be the supplier of choice for this project which has sustainability at its heart. The requirement saw us deliver 14 tonnes of cold-rolled steel and 107 tonnes of hot-rolled steel which will underpin the development and signal a new way forward in the journey towards a more sustainable future.

This project for BWC endorses Shufflebottom’s successful track record in delivering structural steel solutions for the Waste Management sector and adds to our growing portfolio of satisfied Waste Management Clients.

I would like to thank you on behalf of Bristol Waste Company for the excellent execution of our new Process Building in Avonmouth. I knew it was in safe hands when Shufflebottom was awarded the contract, and the proof was in the delivery. Well done to all involved and a special mention to Mark Gower, as the back room often fail to receive the recognition deserved.

Mike Spurway, Senior Project Manager Civils and Construction, Bristol Waste Company
